Returning to U.S. soil from military service, many veterans seek a meaningful civilian life – one where they can continue to serve society while also healing their own wounds — seen and unseen. Farmer Veteran Coalition mobilizes this passion.

Guided by the belief that veterans possess the skills and character needed to strengthen rural communities and create sustainable food systems, Farmer Veteran Coalition opens the door to a life in agriculture. Farming offers purpose, opportunity, and physical and psychological benefits for returning veterans.

But the organization goes beyond just providing employment for veterans interested in a career in farming; it has created a whole ecosystem where veteran farmers can thrive. Their “Homegrown by Heroes” food label allows veterans to differentiate their products while their grant programs ensure veteran farms will continue to thrive. They also provide mentorships, educational workshops, business planning, legal consultations, and many more services for the farmer-veterans, who then get to focus on peace.
